The head gasket has gone, I dont want to sell it but what do I do??? I've been told its best to getanother engine? What about elite units? As it will cost the same, i have no tools here to do this so please help? Or anyone want to take it off my hands!?!

Get it towed back to camb ie breakdown service or other.Give your self time to come up with a solution as regards to the best option.Dont rush in untill a proper diagnosis of what is wrong with your engine is done.

Cheers

I have no storage at home so better off outside my house here I think.

Garage I know has said he will give me a free diagnosis, so think I will do that first, then take it from there.

Also spoke to Elite today rather do a recon an sell this than bugger about i think.

Cheers

What engine have you got ? Secondhand ones are fetching pretty good money at the moment even (i imagine slightly broken ones)

We bought a recon 2.1 from Remtec a couple of years back now, it was pricey - about £1400 then, but they refunded about £350 on return of the knackered one. Shipped it to our garage of choice and collected the old one after a phone call to say all was done and put the refund back on the credit card the next day. Seemed easier than ebaying something so big, heavy & expensive to someone who could have bought it and not really understood what was wrong etc and risking a negative feedback.

The engine has been great, never missed a beat and is quick too... and came with an unlimited mileage warranty (for 5 years I think, but can't get to the paperwork to check that right now).

We also ended up buying a complete new exhaust as the old one had welded / rusted itself to the heads after 20 odd years so you might need to factor that extra cost in too.

All in all NOT a cheap option but for the peace of mind and very smooth running I think it was the right way to go as we're planning on keeping the van for a very long time - still payiing it off on a 0% interest card which softened the blow a lot :D

Cheers guys,

I have got about £1000 to spend, and i think my besty option is for the elite job, i've spoken to them alot about it, and think it is the best option, they seem sound. It's just getting it there now!

First I am going to try the wyns stop water leak though!
