Fitting A Fridge In Your Campervan

ello all sorry not posted in months

.

I have just got my self a 2 way fridge and hoping to fit it this week.
it use to have one befor so air vents and 12v VOLT SUPPLY are all still there,but i need to do the GAS any help or info would be tops

ps:Any got a Spare FLUE like the ones in justcampers will pay good cash

ok nice one fro the link ,it really helped got the gas up and runing now

when i got the frige the he said the ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS can be wired in any way around ?

one more think if any one would know if this would work ,at the back of the fridge there is a junction box like this

and coming from my ZIG i have a plug with a input for a 12 volt car cigarette accessory that the old 12v fridge run from and anythink eals.

would it work if i was to make up a plug for a Cigarette Accessory Plug
like this one

so at the end it looks like this

any help on this would be tops

the 12v side of the fridge should be wired up to the van battery via a relay like the split charge system so its on only when the engine is running as it will run a battery flat very quickly

Yes the old fridge run like that on the same system im going to be connecting to, eg: a switch to set it to car battery/Leisure battery or off ,when on car battery it only worked when the engine is running but when on the Leisure battery its on all the time so this must be a split charge system that i have

so by making a set up like this would work or not

that sounds like split charge for your leisure battery your fridge should really have its own feed from the van battery via its own relay also the high current
drawn by the fridge it would all be better hard wired in at least 2.5mm cable. From what you've said of your current set up if the switch were to be knocked to leisure when the fridge is on 12v you could well end up with a flat leisure batt hence the need for seperate system but what you have will work .

I agree with the hard wire through relay to the main battery.

2 way (and 3 way) fridges eat amps so fast you will flaten a battery overnight , either type. Hard wiring with good (thick) cable will lessen any voltage drop which reduces the power consumption. Finally, the type of plug you are showing is not very good for those currents. They are not designed for maintained high currents and can get too hot. They maybe ok for 10 Amps (it says on the packet) but only for a short time in my opinion.

I am only think of using the 12v on the move,2 hours tops then over to GAS when stoped .wish i know how to hard wired and amp in from the car battery but i do not

The old fridge ran the same way,as in the set up i am making ,and yes it would have flaten the battery overnight so we run it for the hock up at campe site and work well ...

so looks like it will try it my way and keep an eye on it.

imo you are asking for trouble by using that cigarette plug for your fridge, its plain dangerous.

ok just took the back bit off the food cupboard next to were the fridge go and found this lot

I can see a green and blue wire how do i test to see which ones i need..

give me plumbing any one of the week

why do i have a mental block when it comes on electric,,

good greif, was that wired by a carpenter?
if that was me, i would be going out and getting a couple of 30amp relays and using the labeling you have there, and checking they are what they say they are, i'd re wire that lot before you need a fireman!

Now i would say that this box is designed for a caravan, so you need the 12s wiring info to decode it, but the blue labeled "12s" blue should be a alternator signal wire, so will only be +12vdc when the engine is running.

ok i did not know very much when bying the van about the elec ,only that it has all what we need and run very well,
Tested all the water/fridge/cooker/hook up/lights befor sale all good and we had 16 months of fun using it most week end

sorry i have no experience in working with elec ,30amp relays??

i`m more of a visual worker (pic to work from) any good book?

well, if you had a real location in your profile ,and you were not to far away, i would have said i would have a look, or pointed you in the direction of someone else who was closer, but asi dont know where you are, i cant offer.......

arm yourself with a indecator bulb and a couple of bits of wire and see which wire is which, maybe i can talk you through it....????
