Hiya Chris,
The first thing I would do is to get your Solex carb profesionally rebuilt. Getting it rebuilt by a specialist will work out far cheaper in the long run (try Gas Sure or Gower and Lee, Gower and Lee did an excellent job of my carburetors).
Nearly all aftermarket carbs are (to say the least) nothing but expensive junk. I had learnt that lesson the hard way.
(Also have you checked everything else? Eg. fuel hoses, fuel filter, etc.)
