petrol and temp gauge?

Post by phil n gayle »

Hi all,
for the last week i've noticed that the temp and petrol gauges are no longer working.
The temp gauge is not working at-all and the petrol gauge reads half full when it's full and only works below there.
the engine is a 2.1 but it's an early van (1984).
Has anyone any idea what to look for, i'm thinking its not the dial but maybe the printed circuit behind it.
Thanks for any info guys.

First place to check would be the connector behind the instruments on the right hand side. Disconnect the plug and using a cotton bud dipped in a little thin oil, lightly cover the connection side of the pcb part of the connector and reconnect the plug. Try it after doing this and it may well work fine again and be protected for future years!
If that doesnt work, check the earth points behind the fuse box, left hand side, are secure... Loads of brown wires go there so you should spot it ok!
