T25 identification/chassis numbers
Apart from the VIN plate, are there any other chassis numbers anywhere on the bodywork or chassis. In addition to the VIN plate, I'm told there's a number stamped in to the chassis??? Where might it be exactly? Its a '85/'86-ish T25. Thanks,
Dom.

Should be stamped on the front cross member.

chassis number is stamped on the off side front cross member at base of B pillar, it's on the rear side of it, and the underseal is usually wiped off so it can be seen

Re: T25 identification/chassis numbers
Please excuse the ignorance - is the B pillar the section behind the front doors, with the jacking point attached?
At first I thought the cross member was the part of the chassis where the front suspension and wheels are attached, silly me! But its the section in line with the rear of the front doors, isnt it?

Re: T25 identification/chassis numbers
No, I did not check the number. Its a long story but basically I was given the van and I had to get it moved quickly before it was towed for crushing! It went straight to my local (at the time) VW garage for an evaluation to see if it was worth saving (it had been standing for a while). From that point, work was carried out and I've just driven it around! It has been flagged up, though, that it is a 1986 vehicle on a Y (1981 is it?) plate! I didn't consider there was anything wrong as I knew the people who gave it to me so any wrong-doing was done even before they owned it!
I've been down the police station several times but they are just not interested. As there is nothing left on it to give us its true identity, they say there is nothing to be gained from any action on it.
The only other numbers I've seen are on the huge cast front links between front wheel and chassis (not too good with part names am I ?!!). There's a little '86' in the corner, is that anything to do with year of manufacture?

Re: T25 identification/chassis numbers
Those cast numbers are just the part ID etc,. Have a look at the chassis member that Aiden talks about, it`s stamped on the rear facing vertical face of that crossmember below the B pillar. You may have to scrape the underseal off to see it but it`ll be there. If there`s loadsa grinding marks instead then it`s a ringer

Keep it real.

Re: T25 identification/chassis numbers
Sorry, Westy, forgot to say in my earlier post that I found the area looking rusty and possibly tampered-with! No number to be seen.
In reply to CJ - thanks, found tag on seat belt.

You cant see very well in the photo but I looked really hard and reckon it says 01 87 on the left and 1485 and some more digits on the right. Does this mean its a 1987 van?

Re: T25 identification/chassis numbers
Thanks Aidan,
I found a plate under the passenger seat, it is inside the box upon which the seat is mounted, I guess thats the one you mean. There are numbers on the plate but nothing that means anything to me, nothing that looks as if it suggests a year of manufacture. I guess it can be decoded by someone who knows.
Couldn't find a sticker anywhere round the steering column.
Thanks for all the ideas and help.
