Straw poll - information please

Post by Fozzie »

I'm worried about how London's Low Emission Zone from October 2010 will affect everyone on here who drives a diesel T25 (Londoner or not). Without going into the pros and cons of the LEZ (which as a Londoner I broadly support), I'm worried it clobbers drivers of classic, low-mileage campervans with legislation written for owners of large fleet operators. So I wrote to Transport for London.

Today TfL tell me two things:

1. Boris Johnson "has asked TfL to review the details of the LEZ scheme to ensure it meets the objectives of improving air quality and associated health benefits whilst the impact on organisations and individuals is understood and managed appropriately."
2. "TfL has worked previously with the Caravan Club and other organisations to distribute information to their members regarding previous consultations on TfL's behalf."

So, a review of LEZ is going on... But I'm not sure the Caravan Club is the best place to canvass the views of readers of, say, this forum. It would be interesting to know though - are YOU a member of the Caravan Club (and do you think they're the best people to ask about VW campers)? Do tell one way or the other.

I'm not a member of the Caravan Club but I can't see them being the best people to put forward a case for VW campers somehow...

As I understand it vans etc under 1.25tonnes are not affected nor are m/caravans under 2.5tonnes (I think),
If you 'google --low emmisions-- (official site) you can check the details as well as put in your reg no and check whether your vehicle will have to pay. I don't think age, yours or the van, comes into it.

Actually any diesel T25-based van WILL be within scope from October 2010, though we are all enjoying a somewhat misleading stay of execution until then. I was hoping to avoid going into the gory details of the scheme for now, just get a feel for how well people thing the Caravan Club is best placed to represent their views.

And FWIW I'm with Jeanie too - any time I've stayed on CC sites I've felt I was trespassing!

Whatever group that has members with most clout. :ok
That said, whatever group it is should be contacting all other camping/caravan groups to increase the number of people they represent over and above their own group.
