Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
Reregistered as not been here in a while.
Van has been at the garage a week now originally just for the waterpump but as they changed that other associated parts were needed. I'm having trouble finding the last bits they need. Van is 1900 petrol.
According to what's been described to me over the phone, I'm looking for the smaller of the two pipes coming from the water pump, the short flexi-hose from that, the elbow that comes next plus all gasgets and joints etc... Then I also need the gasget from thermostat to cylinder head.
I've looked on VW Heritage and JK but can't seem to find these parts.

1.9 wbx, early or late , thermostat housing at rear of engine or front of engine ?
It sounds like the early one (thermostat at rear next to expansion tank), which is all obsolete, I've sold all the bits I had for that engine I'm afraid, you'll have to try the breakers or http://www.vw-classicparts.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nope, must be a recent engine as the thermostat is at front, oposite side from expansion tank.

This shows what it's like, but soesn't show the other side of the water pump and the parts I need.

You want the 2 small steel pipes and the tiny connecting hose.

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
Could you let us know if you get those bits, and which supplier, Deaks - I'm trying to track down part numbers and availability of all cooling system parts. Idea is to completely replace everything at some stage to bring my system back to new condition.
Thanks

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
I've phoned round loads of places inc. VW Heritage, JK and VW Comercial and those parts have been discontinued. I have found them though on a couple of US websites so I'm planning on ordering from there over the weekend. I'll let you know who I ended up using.

VW Commercial center is where you'll get most parts, those which have been discontinued and are not available via JK or GSF you'll need to ask the breakers for s/h bits.
Part no's are available via the vagcat website.

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
The thermostat housing is basically 3 parts ... the top, the thermostat and the lower housing. This has 3 sensors/senders which plug into it they are sealed by O-rings and retained by wire clips. Between the lower body and the cylinder head is another O-ring.

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
Hi - I'm a new member having recently purchased a 1986 Transporter 78PS - 1915cc, petrol, manual motor caravan.
Similar to Deaks' circumstances, it has been at a garage for a few weeks; water pump has been fixed but now requiring parts for Thermostat Housing - items, I believe, are:
· Thermostat Housing - 025 121 117 E and
· Connecting Socket - 025 121 114
Deaks, have you been successful in sourcing your parts from US?
Grateful for any contacts - I'm currently contacting breakers, etc but no success as yet.
Regards
DesA

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
Just found this thread while searching on the same subject. Deaks did you have to remove the crankshaft pulley to get your pipe out? cause I have just replaced the water pump then sprung a leak from the same pipe (025121151) afer 10 miles (big cloud of steam)
So have the dilema which to remove water pump or crankshaft pulley? Oh it's a three belt pulley so its got a torque of 240 lbf ft a***!!
Thanks for the advice
Jim T
UPDATE Had to remove water pump and oil pressure sensor to wiggle it out!! now to find a new one.

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
Hi folks, sorry for the lack of feedback, my daughter's been in and out of hospital the last few weeks.
The place I ordered the parts from in the US was http://www.busdepot.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; although though only ended up supplying two of the three parts I ordered. I'm still looking for 025121171:
http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?par ... =025121171" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As for what I did to replace things? Paid someone!

Re: Having trouble finding parts for water cooling system!
Just managed to find the last pipe I needed on ebay from the US. When checking ebay remember to search for "vanagon" parts as well as T25, T3, Transporter etc... as that's one of the names used in the US.
