Re: carb problem / ignition problem
Hiya Chris,
If you still had your solex carb, then the best thing to do with it is to get it profesionally rebuilt. I used Gower and Lee to do my carbs (28 Pict-2 and 34 Pic-3) and both of them came back like new. They also worked like new as well.
I used to use Brosol's H30/31 (one second hand from a scrappie and one brand new one) on my 1300 Beetle and have had problems with both carbs. They ran fine for about 3,000 miles and then became useless (dangerous flat spots).
Another thing to check as well are the fuel hoses.

Re: carb problem / ignition problem
i think its definatley the carb just old and tired so looking for a peirburg to repace it.
the ignition on the other hand seems to be the result of a warped dizzy cap. was only contacting on 3 points correctly
all the fuel lines have been done
how much does a rebuild cost

Re: carb problem / ignition problem
When I got my carburetors rebuilt they cost £110 each (from Gower and Lee), which I think (after the hassle I had with Brosol aka junk carburetors) is good value for money.
