tapperty tap tap

Post by jaydog »

Hello again, i need some advises, Haven't started my van for a while due to dead battery, new years day was the last time it was running, i have now replaced that and started the van.

Now there seems to be alot of tapping coming from the engine, could this just be due to cold oil or do my tappets need adjustment, or both, Answers on a postcard to jaydog please.

Seriously any advice would be very grateful, I don't want to just run it up to get it warm cos i read somewhere on here that these old Aircooled busses don't like it, so i wanted to check with the experts first!

Ta.

Tappets . . . engine probably just needs to have a good run for a while, more info here:

If the tappets were OK before they'll be OK now. The engine just needs a good run, after 15 minutes or so it'll be quiet again

Thanks everybody for your replies, they have been most helpful and enlightening. I will give it an oil change (mineral oil)just to be safe though.

Thanks again.
