Strange clunking from rear end

Post by apjoe18 »

Everytime i go around right handers theres a knocking coming from the rear of the van, sounds like knock....knock...knock. i was thinking cv joints but Ive checked and theres no play in them, what else do you guys think it could be? it does it more under acceleration out of the bend. :ok

Exhaust silencer catching ? You don't mention which engine you have :? Rear wheel bearings ? Loose wheel nuts ?

Not as daft as it seems. I heard a 'clunk' every time I accelerated and decelerated in my old camper; looked high and low for the reason - turned out to be a can of kronenbourg rolling from side to side in the bottom of fridge

Ive not ran over anyone recently no, its not the zorst as ive just changed it. sorry its a 2.0 air cooled manual. not wheel bearings or wheel nuts, checked them. and its deffinately mechanical not food stuffs hehe :P . I can only think it might be the cv joints. not a problem to change em its just i didnt want to buy any if it wasnt that, was hoping someone had heard anything similar. cheers for the help so far :D :ok

Hiya,

Knocking sounds from rear when going around corners? Yep, heard that one before cos our van does the same too!

Had the van 3 years now and everytime its gone through the mot, but never had any cautionaries regarding CV joints, so assume either they must be ok, or it's something else but can't be that serious we'd assume!?

Sorry can't offer anything  more then that, just to let you know though there's other vans out doing the same thing!

Cheers.

Ours does the same when we are coming off roundabouts and I've got my foot down. I've currently cured it by not putting my foot down coming off roundabouts.

We took her into Steve Shaw at Gasure who says it needs a new diff bearing. It sounds like quite a big job involving the gearbox coming out, but it isn't something that is urgent, so we're just considering when to have it done.

It could be the same thing.

Good luck with it.
