Sliding Door Track

Post by willard »

Looking at my sliding door and cleaned and greased all the tracks to the head, base and mid-rail. Don't know if its in the right place but I noticed that the wheel in the middle of the door sits on a rail rather than in the "track" - the wheel has a V indentation in it which sits on the front of what I thought was the track channel. Is this correct, or should the wheel be in the track?

Also, does anyone know how easy it is to raise the door to align all the panel lines on the same sliding door? My doors about 1/2 inch out and although I'm not bothered I think this is why the door occassionally pops open when driving.

Any information would help or sugestions on what it should all look like would be really appreciated.

Fritz, thanks for the advice. You're right the swage lines on the door are about a 1/2 inch lower than the body panels. The wheel is sitting on the edge of the track and not in it so I'll "lift" it back in and see how everything lines up. Only think is, I'm guessing that this will drop the door and so it'll line up even less than before. If that's the case, do I then need to adjust it using the sliding thingy connecting bolts on the rear edge of THE door - I know that somewhere it was suggested that you ise a jack to support the door, loosenthe bolts, raise it and then tighten off. Sounds easy!!

Thanks again, I'll let you know how it looks after the wheel is re-set.

fyi the roller does run on the edge not in the track, that's why it has a v section, check out your bentley manual for the alignment details, but basically the rear hinge is held in place by three bolts in the door, crack them off align and tighten. The front height is adjusted by the two bolts on the lower runner plate that holds it to the door, ditto crack them off adjust and tighten.
The rear flush line is controlled by the position of the pin, which is a glorified bolt and the front flush line by the top roller which is fixed by a bolt under the plastic cap and by the bolts on the horizontal plane of the front roller plate, there's a plug in the floor to access one with the door shut so you can lock it off perfectly aligned.
A second person and a suitable jack are quite useful when doing door alignment ime

Aidan, thanks for the tip. I'll leave THE runner alone and just adjust the rear levels of the door. The front sits fine. Hoping that this will also mean that the door stays shut and locked when driving... :ok
