Replacement water tank

Post by TomB »

Hello all
My newly-purchased T25 has had fuel in the (drinking) water tank (I can smell it from the opened cap on top). It is a 1990 Autohomes Komet.
I have spoken with Charles & Son and Autovan in the SE, with no new replacements available. Can anyone suggest where a second-hand tank could be sourced - or can the tank possibly be cleaned? Other ideas?
The tank is located in a triangular cavity beneath the bed/bench seat.
Thanks
Tom

Thanks very much - should have mentioned that I have spoken with them today, with no luck due to the odd-shaped cavity.

you do see the autohomes tanks come up on ebay from time to time....many people have them out and use the space as storage. Someone one here mentioned that he did exactly that , recently.
Sorry cant remember who though.
Funny thing is , i had exactly hte same issue but i cleaned mine out with pura clean several times and it seemed to do the trick although we dont use the water for drinking.....just cooking(boiling) and washing up.

It was the bloke who made a very nice looking dash tidy and a very posh wooden floor in his camper. He mentioned that he had removed his autohomes tank...... his name is Dwayne if he is around?!!

If all else fails (I am thinking about cost) I had a beutifuls tank made by Olearys (spelling?) for about £90 a couple of years ago. I just sent drawings and a very substantial welded plastic job came back exactly right.

We have an autohomes which we we brought it it had no water tank under the rear seat it had instead a water carrier in the wardrobe which had a submerged water pump inside, anyway at a show Jed sauced an autohomes water tank. I fitted it but I wish I had'nt because its very difficult to clean so now we only use it for washing up with and buy bottled water to drink. Now I understand why the previous owner removed it! With the removable tank it was easy to flush clean!

Just in case someone digs up this thread with the same type of problem - I use a flexible Vetus one that I 'borrowed' from my boat - will fit in any shape then.

we took out the water tanks from both boat and Kamper , and use those 3 litre juice type plastic bottles from pestco , they have a wee loop handle which hooks onto a handily placed cup hook . tanks are a pain to clean, get slimy inside , cause excess weight etc etc yawn
