"ICE" tv in camper help

Hi guys,

Basically, being 18 i want a TV and Xbox in my camper, to play after surfing... problem is i have no idea at all about electrics. Could anyone write me a breif (or detailed if you like) description of how i'd go about (and if it's possible) doing it.

i fitted the bluebird customs 15 inch motorised flip tv in my bus, they are not too expensive either.

easiest way to do it is with an inverter, this turns 12v into 230v. that will run the x box and a telly quite happily the only problem is that an inverter will zap the battery quite quickly. best way round that it a leisure battery, and a split charge system (see the wiki) then if you use all the power in the leisure battery it's not the end of the world cos you'll still be able to start the van!

have a look at the towsure website for invertors, for a normal 14" telly and an x box you'll need a 300W invertor as a minium!

I have a leisure battery, but no idea of it's condition..

If i was to do the inverter and wire up to the split charge... can you use it engine running? And how long would the average Lbattery last fully charged and how long does charge take?

Ignore all that - easiest way is buy a 15" Lcd tv with freeview from asda for £160 n put / fix it in - on the back of them it has a 12 volt socket, buy the lead and plug it into a cigarette lighter! Even my Ma In Law has done this so u should!!
Has inputs for stuff too!

12v TV? Awesome, nit heard of that - i'll definatly look into it. Where have people mounted their TV, presumably so they can be hidden aswell!?

Would that sort of thing be suitable?

If it's better to go the inverter route, how long will the battery last if being used on xbox/tv? And when run out how long does it take roughly to charge up with the engine running?

Mount it behind the drivers seat in a metal box (wood if ya cant make one from metal!) or adapt the end of the kitchen unit. Fit it with B&Q computer desk slides with a 4" wide 'drawer' and just mount the tv on the stand on it!
Only Asda seem to have the 12 volt thing inputs on their lcd tv's though.

Xbox has a hefty power rating (175W) so best suited for electric hook-up only.

Sorry to butt in, but PEET, can you give me any more info on the asda tv as i would be interested in getting one, but having looked on the website, i can't find which tv it is likely to be. Any info greatly appreciated.

this is a 12v flat screen tv!!

it has the inputs for a game console.

something for you to think about is that the ps2 slim are 12v so no need for inverters etc.

its a great tv / dvd too......

Hi Ju, no sign of em on the website so must be an 'in-store' only item, it's a make called ONN and it's a 15" LCD/DVD player with free view, I think they were either £159 or £169. I turned one round on Sunday and checked if it had a 12Volt input but double check before you buy as I nearly bought one without from Tescos a few weeks ago and am now definately gonna buy one from Asda as soon as in case they stop doing em!!

So would the xbox be a definate no-go?

Suppose i could always just store the tv under the bed or something - bring it out when you want to use it! Thanks for the help so far!
