ICE - iPod question

Post by plymat »

I have an aftermarket ICE unit that excepts my iPod via aux input but I would like to make a docking station unit to sit in the ash tray unit, has anyone done anything like this or know where to get the bits for the docking station connector bit from? If it works I would possibly do the same with my mobile which connects through Bluetooth, and sit then side by side.

I'm sure I've seen something like this in some £ shops.

By the end of 2009 you will. Could well be the only shops surviving and trust me there are HEAPS of things in there that are ideal for a T25. Used their windscreen wipers for years. The 'Paint your wagon with a roller' WIKI was based on a limited budget and many of the things required for that were from £ shops. I've converted many - even really snobby T25 owners. Don't rule them out.

you need a bog standard generic i pod dock you'll be able to get one from any electrical store, make sure you get one that has an external power supply and a 3.5mm jack plug. the power connector won't be 12v but you can get one of these from maplin

Try and get a proper 'Made for iPod' dock connector though, they fit better, are easier to insert and remove and won't kill your iPod. We have the iPod kit factory installed in our Mk5 Golf which you think would be great, but it forever crashes my gen5 iPod unless I'm very careful when removing it. It won't work at all with my iPhone.

Tis a bit more than a dock, but have a look at the 'drive and play' by harman kardon.
Can be found on amazon for around £40.

Put your ipod in the glove box and it gives you a screen and a joystick (separate) that you can mount somewhere that you can easily see and get to whilst driving. It also charges the ipod. I fitted one to my mums van and its been really good.

Glad to have been of help. We found the control unit sits quite well behind the dash, but thats on an older van with a simple dash.

Have fun with it!
