new clutch?..

Post by Therunner »

just picked up the 4spd 2litre air cooled from the garage,.
after i took it in there for gear troubles,.
it's a temporamental pig! sometimes it goes in 1st & 2nd easy but sometimes
it doesn't & i have to press the clutch pedal several times to get it in, i've got a nack
now of sticking it in neutral approaching roundabouts & pressing the pedal a few times
then i don't get stuck going round the roundabout unable to change gear!! once or twice
it's gotten 'stuck' in reverse, physicaly hard to move the lever out! most of the time it 'crunches'
going into reverse too & people look round at me like 'can't you drive that thing?..'

apparantly the gear box mounts & one of the bushes 'the one below the gear selector'
have been replaced very recently, & it had a new clutch 2 ish years ago,.

but garage man says the hydrolics & gear linkage is fine & that it needs a new clutch?,. charged me
nothing bless him as he said he didn't 'really' do anything but driving it home it was completely
different/easy drove it around for a bit to prove it to myself & it really does feel fine!

i don't get it?

i don't need to fork out £200 odd for a new clutch just yet though do i?...

:D

You will have to trust the bloke at the garage, I bet he will get at least one of these type of faults a day and the only fix is to put a new one in.... :D
