AAZ First Run

Post by Fully Loaded Cali' »

It's alive!!! :D

I've completed the conversion from JX to AAZ. My JX being seriously under powered and did I find some issues when stripping it!

The AAZ is running the JX Turbo, inlet and exhaust manifolds and modified boost pin.

The performance is outstanding, the quicker you can change gear, the quicker you can hit 60!

To anyone thinking of undertaking the conversion (from JX to AAZ) - DO IT! The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the engine back into the van onto the spigot shaft!! I did it with a sprained wrist, one trolley jack and a block of wood.

There are still plenty of engines still out there, I bought a SEAT Toledo with 1 owner, FSH, av miles off Ebay for £150. Then sold the interior for £100 and the turbo for £65 and scrapped the shell - engine was free!!

All in all - a cheap and quick conversion for the DIY and the results are fantastic! :ok

It does make me wonder why they didnt.

I have finally got confidence in mine now after changing the head gasket sorted my overheating issues. I scare myself when i look down and im cruising at 75! Im just struggling to get used to the 5 speed JX box - 1st to 2nd gear is horrible. I dont have to use it all the time but still its a pain.

MPG is better than the 1Y, it pulls like a train up hills and i love the whistle of the turbo :D

Was it worth the hassle and expense? So far yes - i just hope it stays reliable doing 20,000 miles a year!
