Just thought id ask a few people on here, I have always filled up at shell. Mainly because they are cheapest in my area and the fuel station is about 800yrds down the road. I recently got a 5p off voucher given to me for tescos, on the same day my local tescos slashed the price of fuel by nearly 4p. So wit the voucher was well worth going to fill up. Put in a whole tank of cheapo tesco diesel and ever since my van has been an absolute cow to start. I have to use the cold start lever(never ever used it before, even when it was -10 on top of a mountain!). Also seems to smoke more and be slightly down on power. Any1 else experienced similar or am i talking out ma bum hole??

Thats intersting!. A freind off mine once told me not to use Tesco/ Asda All the big stores fuel! Hes the top mechanic for Fiat in the uk. They once did tests on the fuel with other fuel stations. The low down was 'dont use supermarkets fuel'. They dont use the same mix as the BP Shell etc etc. He told me that after a long long time you could get a lot of carbon build up? The only thing which is odd. It all comes from the same place when the lorrys get filled up to deliver the fuel
What i will say is that i still use them. Ive not had a problem as yet. Just use what works for you.
Hope you get it sorted

I think theres only two oil refineries so the fuel only comes from two places, but companies add different amounts of additives to the fuel thats why theres variation in quality.

Re: Poor starting on Tesco Desiel! Coinsidence?
I notice our Tesco's have started doing those massive drums of cooking oil "in store". Maybe you'd do better on them. You can get them in Low Cholesterol as well just in case you van is carrying a bit too much round it's waist I suppose.

Tesco get their fuel from a Dutch based company called Greenways or something so it is not the same as the fuel from the 2 British based oil refineries.

Previously talked about this one.
Everyday car - Galaxy does 250 mile a week minimum, fill up at Shell/Esso and good mpg, good performance etc Compared to Supermarket mpg is less and performance is notably less.
Syncro - Fill up at Esso always, even on the continent, good mpg and performance.
Stick to the proper fuel suppliers not the baked bean suppliers and you can't go wrong - Was it only last year that a major supermarket supplied fuel which played havoc with a lot of motorists cars?

Yes there are obviously many urban myths related to fuels and many are just that - urban myths. But when you have whole localities littered with dead vehicles or for instance, Watchdog TV highlighting the fact that the Vauhaul Vectra fuel pump/regulator problems cluster around the Bedford area this dose lend a degree of credibility to the supply issue.
