Accelerator cable

Post by Syncro G »

 Snapped it

Now plastic welded back together with cable ties, but I don't think it'll last.

So, anyone know how to change one? I'm a bit confused by the pic on ETKA...

Image

Its the very end that went where it conects to the padal (hance having something to cable tie it to). The rubber bellow was nackered which probubly explains why the cable froze in the first place, alowing me to overstress it.

So I'll be needing a new bellow, and the cable in the bottom of the picture (6-RHD diesel). Does that need unbolting from somewhere invisable under the van before it'll easilly slide out of part 8 which can stay where it is to guide in the new one? Is it just a case of do that, fit a new bellow and job done?

Anyone with more up to date stock info know if they are still avalable and at what cost (are parts getting more expencive as pound drops?)? I notice a syncro diesel cable seems to be significantly more expencive than any other manual T3, and the RHD pedal design looks well less engineered than the leftys, also helping the nicely coroded weekspot to develop.

Maybe I'll do fly by wire when I TDI it.

That version of ETKA seems more recent than mine. How old is that version? Mine goes to 2003.

The trouble with 'fly by wire' is that you cant 'cable tie it' when it breaks!!! :D

disconnect at the front and pull cable out rearwards after having unscrewed the screw fixing the stop to the rear chassis member iirc for a diesel. The plastic sleeve stays in place in the chassis.

Cheers, so it should be quite streight forward then. The plastic sleave means it doesn't need re routing arond the front wishbones as it just goes in the tube, I'll have a look for it and the bolt on the crossmember. Think disconecting the front was the easy bit! Hard to tell really as the front bit is all behind an outrigger so I can only see it with a mirror.

Its ETKA 7, looks pritty much what the dealers have. Not sure exactly what date it is but it covers up to 2007 VW/Audi so presume its about then. Dealers seem to charge 10-20% more than base euro prices but I don't trust that bit too accurately, but you know if it costs €0.00 don't bother. Doesn't seem bothered by screen resolusion eather. Its a DVD job though as its big, everythings in german too, took a while to work out how to switch it to english.

Fitted new one to my syncro a month or so ago.
Got one from eurocarparts after gsf and another branch of eurocarparts said don't stock them and can't get them anymore - was on website catelogue I think: £14.63 part no. 647440300 T25 acc cable 1.9/2.1 83-92 so fits all petrol modles -different fitting at engine for diesel?
But easy peasy to fit and no mechanic me! :ok
Peddle conection easy with front protection pan out of way, feed through outer sleeve from middle of van where fixes to body (where mine rusted and broke), disconnect from engine end and tie thread to end, pull through with thread attached -fix new to thread and pull back through to engine.
