Hello All and HEEELLLLPP !
My dear ol gal suffers from some light blue smoke and when I turn her off when hot and go to start her again STEAM from exhaust ! Methinks when I turn her off the cooling system is still under pressure and is forcing water where water should not be.........Head gasket OR please god no, not a cracked head ! Anyway I am going to remove the head and replace head gasket, valve stem seals and T belt.
Question 1, If the head is cracked will a visual inspection show this ?
Question 2, If the bores measure up should I fit new rings ?
She has only done 89k and I would like to keep her original, ideally I would love to find another 1.7ky.for spares or repair.
So anyway, come on you T25ers please give me a bit of a push and we can get her on the road for another year. What do you think ?
All and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks All
(Sorry please note E D I T 1.7 not 1.9, silver haired moment)

Re: 1.9ky diesel.? ? ?
When the head on my KY was cracked it was visible - in three places.
First off you could just hope its the gasket....
It was cheaper to buy a 1Y engine complete than get spares for the KY...
Someone may have a head - but i've not seen many of them advertised.
Good luck,
Ringo

Thanks Ringo. I have found a chap with a KY engine and although he doesn,t plan on using it he is very reluctant to sell it. If I irritate him enough he may change his mind. A lot ofpeople apparently have changed this engine for something else so there must be several out there somewhere..I hope.

Re: 1.7ky diesel.? ? ? AAAHHHHHH
Well thats it then. Have just taken the head off and woe is me. 4 very visable cracks between each pair of valves and a LOT of piston "slap"
I think a total rebuild will be out of my price range (the work don,t worry me but the finance does). Poor me, feeling very sad now. Will look at the best transplant engine, something to give me "silver haired speed" and not to electronic will do nicely ? ?
Any suggestions..............anyone ?

Cracks between valve seats is normal on all vw 2 valves per cylinder diesels, the cracks can get to big thougth.
