JX to AAZ injector pump......help??

Post by sundial »

Although I am currently running an AAZ in my van it has been set up with a 1.6 pump and injectors, this is how it was when a brought it just over a year ago, it runs well but is a pig to start in this colder weather.

I have got hold of a AAZ pump from e-bay and was wondering before having ago (or letting someone else have ago) if the pulley wheel on the JX pump will fit straight onto the AAZ pump as the AAZ unit came without a pulley fitted!

Next, am i right in assuming the injector pipes may need a little persuasion to fit or are replacement pipes suggested?

Obviously I need new injectors as well, is there a suggestion what injectors are most suited to this set up - looking at Vagcat for the AAZ engines there seems to more than one variation ie. 028 130 201 (then either a B , BX or J on the end) what does the letter mean?

Finally, although I think I have this one sorted (finger crossed) can anybody recommend a diesel pump re conditioner, preferably in the Midlands area.

many thanks for any help / suggestions.

Have you ruled out everything else, heater plugs working? timing slipped(major aaz problem)? engine healthy?

1.6 injecotrs are fine in an AAZ. AAZ pump is not going to do a better job than a good JX pump with JX injectors, yes there are differences in the pumps but they will both do the job with JX injectors.

AAZ pipes will fit with 1.6 injectors with very slight modification.

JX pulley will fit almost every AAZ pump you will find.

The letter X on any part number means its an exchange part.

What would the difference be with AAZ injectors and AAZ Pump with a 220 Boost pin?

Would GTD Injectors be an improvement?

I'm running AAZ Pump AAZ injectors and the 220 boost pin and the van shifts that much i'm wondering how much the 215mm clutch can take

nothing mega special about gtd injectors just a tad bigger. Boost pin will make a difference but not huge without other mods inside pump.
JX clutch is very weak and any AAZ which is putting out more torque than standard will make it not last long or slip instantly depending on how strong engine is.

The real key to getting more power with diesels is more fuel = more power. Without a restrictive intake, the trick is to build up the injection pump with a larger head. This will provide more fuel ,no matter what injectors you have. Bigger injectors won't do much unless the pump can provide the fuel.

so i could have turboed my 1Y by doing this, for some reason thought the jx injectors and pump wouldn't have worked  doh! woulld they give the same fuel delivery as aaz pump and injectors?

Well yes they would have worked, but I'm not sure if the pump heads are the same size for both those engines. There are ways of taking the pump numbers to figure out their designation, etc, etc. IF both pumps use the same size heads then, the JX one would have worked fine. I'm not sure about the injectors ,but i am using the injectors from my old 1.7 on the 1.9 with zero difference.
