What sort of length of time would you say is safe to leave it on charge for??
Also do you have to remove the caps on the battery you are charging??

Had it on for about 1 1/2 hours and it didn`t make any difference
Mind you I`m really not sure how to use this Zig unit properly yet
My fault , should have kept up the regular starting regime

The Zig can only provide a 'trickle' charge. And to be honest, most camper conversions do not even wire that particular part of the Zig up. It was originally designed to go in caravans, not campers. They assumed the 'starter' battery would be charged via the alternator and would not go flat by using the camper equipment which was fed via the leisure battery.
OK cheers for that , so does that mean that it can be left on trickle on the leisure and is it possible to do the wire up for the starter battery??

Well you can do the wiring but it's a lot of work for very little actual benefit (that's code for 'I couldn't be arsed to'). I can't even begin to imagine how long it would take to charge a flatish battery. Do you actually NEED it to, or is it just something you think might come in useful one day? As for leaving the leisure battery on trickle, there's no point if you're not using it and I don't think batteries like being on permanent charge. If you're planning on putting your van into hibernation over the winter (not advisable anyway) why not just disconnect both the batteries? Overall. the best thing to do is actually drive the van occassionally.
Sorned and sitting on the drive hooked up with a flat battery as it is, so time to break out the charger....
But all your points taken on board ....
Cheers
