Propex Install with alternative Thermostat

Hi Guys,

I recently bought a Propex Heater for my van off good old flea bay and wanted to fit an aftermarket Thermostat/Timer, so I opted for a 12v Heatmiser PRT-N as opposed to the thermostat that I received with the heater.

I was hoping some clever person on here would be able to help with how I should wire it all in

The loom that is fitted to the heater has: black- red+ purple and orange wires attached. I have no problem with where the black- and red+ wires go to, but its the orange and purple wires that have got me stumped. I can guess they control when the Thermostat switches the heater on and off and adjusts temperature, but want to make sure I connect them the right way round as to save any possible damage.

The pics below show the back of the new Thermostat and the back of the Propex Thermostat if this helps at all.

Well it says 'volt free contacts' on the 'stat so I'd assume the A1 and A2 terminals. The RT1 and RT2 terminals are (probably) for a remote 'stat. All this is just an educated guess.

Didn't it come with instructions and why don't you want to use the proprietry 'stat supplied with the heater?

Also, 'volt free contacts' are in essence a simple ON/OFF switch (so not polarity sensitive) and I suspect the propex 'stat unit is a bit more complex then that - particularly as it has a specific 'To Htr' terminal.

I'd get in touch with Propex before proceeding if I were you.

The heater itself didn't come with instructions, but were easy enough to locate on the web.

The Propex stat that I have however, differs to the one pictured in the diagram online.

As you will be able to see from the pic on my first post, there are four terminals on the back of the Propex stat that I have. The pic I have just posted has six, two of which there is no connection to.



If I were to stick with the stat I had when I bought the heater, I'd still not be sure which terminals to connect the orange and purple wires to.

I guess a call to Propex may be in order

I don't think it's going to work. The propex 'stat allows you to run the heater and fan OR the fan on it's own for the summer. The purple and orange wires may control these seperately via the 'stat unit.

Definately check with Propex; you don't want to fry anything...........

If you do get the new one working I'd be happy to buy the old one off you if possible as mine is knackered.
