The above diag is that of a home made "Air Ironiser" made by me quite a few years ago.
I now need help as I have forgotten what type of capacitor I used at (4) on the diag.

Info is as follows >>>>>>
Voltage in is 250 volts.
No 1 = 3amp fuse
No 2 = Neon mains lamp
No 3 = Mains type Room dimmer switch
No 4 = Capacitor = 0.5 micro farad rated at 600 volts ( can not remember the type)
No 5 = 12 volt standard Ignition Coil.
No 6 = An amount of household wire wool

Can any one tell me what type of Capacitor I used cos I am Bug**ered if I can remember.

Oh and it does work 100% but just keep your fingers away from the wire wool

ps = the design was made by a Pro of electronics down in Kent. Recluse, lived on a houseboat on the Medway at Chatham. Long passed on to the land of "good people"
He was known as "Capt Brass"

Electrolytic but why bother, even a new vehicle ioniser is only about a fiver inc postage on Ebay and a lot safer.

That looks cool! Been a while since I played with electrical stuff like that but I'm getting back into it again. I can diagnose and design circuits but this sort of thing is what makes it fun! :D

I'll ask at work about 'Capt Brass', someone probably knew him as we are up and down the Medway most days and I'm sure the name will ring a bell with one of the old crew members!

Thanks for the info. I had an idea it was elecrolytic but wanted to be sure.

Its the fun of being able to do it and less risk the using Fleabay, and its not for a van cos I have one for that.

Of course you want to make one... Just for the hell of it (and to see what it does, of course!).

Yeah, its very similiar to the wikipedia one, just a home-made jobbie instead and a lot more fun than buying one!

Go on, you know you want to! :D

Now I am known as a bit of a nutter when it comes to hairbrained schemes but this one is a bit strong even for me! I too dabble but the potential (clever pun) for disaster with this circuit is just too much unless you are a rubber shoe clad teetotle recluse with a very modern RCD protected main supply.
Cheers
Wolfie
By the way it is very similar to my garage roof cat discourager septin I replaced the mains supply and dimmer with a 12V battery and trembler coil. You should have seen those cats move!
