rear wheel bearing???-squeeky noise

Hi thinking of replacing rear wheel bearing- makes a sqeeky noise, not a rumbling, and doesn't do it all the time.
two questions- is this the bearing or something else?
do i need to do both sides at same time?
looks complicated in haynes manual so might have to be a garage job

You may find changing the bearing will not fix your problem, personally I'd be re greasing the outer CV joints on each drive shaft as the grease inside the joint tends to dry up and loose some of its lubricating properties.

Also some other things to check first would be,

1, Large castellated nut on end of each drive shaft, for security. (should be Very tight)

2,Security of all wheel nuts...

Squeaky/grinding noise can also be build up of brake dust in drum.

My rear near-side wheel has begun doing the same grinding noise at a certain part of the rotation - was just curious what the outcome of this thread was?

Was it fixed by a simple re-grease

Does it go away if you lightly press the brakes, or put the handbrake on a bit? Mine squeaks in this way, think its a front brake as the handbrake has no affect but the footbrake does. Unless anyone has any other ideas? Stops in a streight line and had new pads recently so despite being rather iritated with it I haven't put too much effort into looking at it (one of those jobs you keep forgetting about when its parked).

46mm You'll need a long bar and 2 fat fookers to tighten it .... get Sevy to give you a hand
