Getting behind dash

Post by PeteIOM »

Howdy...

I'm a total newbie! :) Just bought a 1991 T25 Trooper after much searching for the right one... and think I have found a right peach.. I'll post some pics.. but not sure where :)

So anyway... I'm throwing a new CD player in it and have got all the connecters and have installed it but am having real issues getting it all the way into the slot due to wires at the back.. whats the easiest way to get under the dash to route the wires from the back? I've had the dash tidy off and that got me know where :-)

Cheers
Pete

as a lot of stereos are too deep to fit.you will probably need one of these spacers http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

if you remove the factory ashtray, you can reach in above the wireless and route the cables under in as you push it in...... unless you have picked a particulally long wireless, it should just fit in with a bit of carefull routing of the cables and antenna coax........it is also possible to drop the glovebox and get your arm in from that end too

I know a stereo that will just about fit into a type 2 T3 and that is iRandom's CD, USB and SD mp3 car radio. They cost about £55 and to be honest they are exceptional value for money.

The link is on here:-

Since I have used SD cards full of mp3s, I haven't looked back since. I have now got one fitted to my type 2 T3 camper and my mexican beetle.

Incidentally, if you don't actually need the ashtray, when you remove it you can easily make a blanking plate from hardboard (you''l need to round corners of hardboard a little for perfect fit), spray it black and dash is all tidy. It also gives you access to stereo cables if you ever needed to get in there.

Cheers... glovebox out and managed to get in behind and sort it.... second problem though is finding where the rear speaker cables are... the guy before me must have only installed front speakers.. but there are cables coming from the connector block that would indicate cables for the rear as well.. hmm time to start ripping up some carpet :)

The only thing I can immediately guess is the aerial.

I've had no problems with my iRandom and my Just Kampers aerial at all (I did use the original mounts though).
