Little update here - fitted a brand new aerial, and tested the earth properly, it definately works 100%, so onto next area to check to stop radio crackle. So, what next? Should I try the new HT leads next?

Re: Radio Crackle
I got carp reception in both my vehicles and after a lot of faffing around have come to the conclusion that it is beyond the skill of designers to sort out a radio that can spot the difference between an albeit big electrical spike and a supposedly organises and frequency controlled radio signal. And don't give me all that D squared nonsense as the wee signal can make enough din without the engine running. By the way what is the digital radio's equivilent of digital TV's pixelation problem?

Re: Radio Crackle
ok, so like i said in the very first place, the only way to cure interference is at source....... you have done the antenne thing, now look at the reason the antenna is picking up the crackle...... the answer is because its working as a antenna, and something is working as a transmitting antenna for the sorce of the interference, normally a bad connection making a length of something metalic the correct electrical length to resonate in the broadcast wireless band. That length is about 75cm ( which incedentally is the electrical lenght your wireless antenna should be, so if it is telescopic antenna, make it 75cm long and it will work better.)
you now need to find the source, by elemination of what isnt causing it.
start with the king lead, see its connections are clean, and good, then move onto the dissy cap, likewise with good clean connections....... easiest way is replacement, but that could expensive.... try using a portable wireless as a "sniffer" see where the crackle is strongest and use that as a pointer to start at

Re: Radio Crackle
Haha...
Well I finally got time off work and so finally had a go at the HT leads properly etc... and guess what...
Crackle free radio AND a more responsive engine...
Thanks Mocki!
But that does lead to another question...
But for that a new post!
