Merry Stressmas - Wrong Gearbox!!!

Post by Yozza »

Hello Folks,
I thought I would spend some of my Xmas break doing a bit of tinkering and bought some new oil to go in the box. While I was under the van un-ceasing the filler and drain plugs I scraped 20 years of crud off to discover the gear box code is DW 25 01 3. According to Brickyard info I should have an AAP or AAR attached to the 2.1i DJ '88.
Can anyone enlighten me? Have I been driving around with a much lower ratio box. Can I keep using the DW or should I really start hunting for an AAP or AAR?
Merry Stressmas!

AAP final drive ratio 4.57
DW ................. 4.86
Just means than your top end will be lower (higher rpm for given road speed, basically faster acceleration lower top end)
There is no real detriment but the lower ratio is prefered.

See gearbox chart for model year etc (looks like it belonged to an earlier less powerful 57KW engine)

Hi Red Westie,
Thanks for the reply. This is what I'd suspected, just nice to get a second opinion.
