help identifying cooling related part
Not familiar with the engine yet, so wonder if someone could help me identify part on 1600 td T25 (I've checked the Wiki). I can't inspect at the moment but from memory its a metal tube 4-6 inches long with a plug-in electrical connection and is also connected to rubber (water?) pipes. It's just that with the key out of the ignition, I noticed it was making a noise (silenced by unplugging the lead to it). Thanks, Jon.

I think you will find it is an auxillary water pump to aid cooling once the engine has been stopped after a run.

Thanks, Fritz. Does that mean I can get by without it for a bit?

Why do you want to do without it? The pump will run until it's cool enough and then it will shut off. A bit like a radiator fan on modern cars that continue after the engine is turned off and runs until the coolant is down to temperature.

Re: help identifying cooling related part
Yes, I realised my mistake after putting up my post. When I didn't know what it was and I'd heard it making a noise, I presumed the noise was "bad" and would eventually lead to an expensive trip to the garage, so I was wondering if it was still OK to drive until I could get it fixed. However, now I know the noise is "good", it doesn't need fixing, which is nice! Thanks for your help, Jon.
