Early Zig unit question Split Charge RM12?

Post by happytheman »

Hi, I have a Supercharger Model MCF 5 made by Peter Everard from Stroud. I guess it is an early zig unit and I have a question so please bear with me.

There is a switch under the steering wheel which is connected to a Zig RM12 relay. The wires can then be traced up to under the cooker where they have been cut and do not go up to the charger unit.

Could I reroute these wires and attach them (via a fuse) direct to the leisure battery or should I reattach them to the unit? Could I use this relay (RM12) or is it not strong enough? I have read the wiki but only the CF8 is covered and the split relay looks simple but would like a definite answer please.

Thanks,

without looking for myself it would be difficult to comment. I would be inclined to rip out what you don't understand and wire in a new relay. Under normal circumstances a 30A or 40A relay is used for these vans. I'm sure the wiki has a section just about split charge relays.

I'll probably end up doing exactly that, I was wondering whether the relay already there was suitable. The only identifying feature is the Zig RM12 and I'm inclined to wire this up to the battery direct (via fuses of course). I have seen the wiki and it is very helpful.

I'm not sure what an RM12 is (google thinks its a postcode in Essex) but standard relays are only couple of pounds so it might be easier to buy new (or from a breakers)
