Hürlimann Senior or Junior ?
Didn't they go their separate ways?

I think it was Hürliman Senior... i don't know the junior, but i think he's not good for the business doing it in this way....

I understood they fell out about 2 years ago, and split the business up, that's all... sounds like the young turk chucked his old man outa da nest, must be junior refrubing the VCs then.

I hope you chaps are ready to pounce on that know-how, fill-data and test bench, if he decides to chucj the business in one day...
By any chance Christolph, do you know what air-gap they mainly use - 8%?
And the viscosity?
Or do they still kepe this an in-house secret?

Hi again!
When I was discussing with the owner, the oldest guy there, appeared the son, (I think it was the son, more or less 45 yrs old or so dunno exactly) but he explained better about the problem and of course I did understand it. Of course it's better to change it than refill it, maybe the inside discs are in bad conditions and then all the work is for nothing. He is a nice mechanic, no doubts...
When I was in the Syncro meeting, Bining, I was talking to a swiss guy who told me about his behaviour and I thought "bah, maybe is not so bad, I will try"... Next time I invite him first to drink some beers and then talk about business...

And please Christoph don't apologise about that! Is not a problem for me... Now it is a challenge because I will try to get the silicone oil and the discs by myself and I will try to be helped by specialists here in my place! I won't give up!!

Did the son say they always fitted a new disc pack or only if they were really bad?
To get the air gap correct, you have to weigh the silicone oil out on gram-scales. It is messy too!
The silicone oil for these has other additives, and its a blend of 2 or more viscosities to get the right value I think.

Have heard that too - think that cantekerous might be the right word
You really want the VC to behave exactly as it was intended to, and be tested to prove it does before fitting... for safety and controllability - small changes to spec. make big differences
and they can run up to 100bar pressure when hot...
Do it wrong and it could pack up almost straight away... my Dorfbrunnen refurb feels a bit stiff when cold, but continues to transmit power very well to the front wheels and once warm, is no problem at all.
It really is a laboratory job to do it right

No. Whilst that could I suppose be taken as a deductive corollary of the message, in fact, what I meant was -
...the important thing is you can trust the suppliers credentials to assure you that the refurbers have calibrated it post refurb to ensure that it complies with at least that one simple test - ergo Temp/Time Vs transmitted torque at a nominal approved test rpm (that VW decided was a pretty good indication that fill-factor, siloxane type and viscosity and general internal condition are correct) - and whether that bit of paper happens to end up in the box or not, to be assured that those are the procedures that have been carried out before despatch.
