exhaust problem

Post by Ray »

Fitted a new s/s system last month. when fitted I seemed to strip one of the fitting bolts into the head, it appeared to hold ok but became a noisy. looking today the bolt in question has come out. Apart from helicoil is there any other method of fixing it.

Drill out and tap to the next size bigger usually works, if some of the thread is still there a stud going right to the bottom of the hole where the thread will be better might do it, a spring washer under the nut might help too.
Why does the not quite finished job before last always conspire with the not quite started job after next to make what you should be doing now harder?

Managed to get another bolt in which aeems to hold up tight, and readjusted the nearby pipe joints so that the flange sits squarely on head.
I'll wait and see if it stays gas tight
