I wonder if anyone can help - my mechanic has said that 2 metal or steel pipes that run from the front of the van to the back have corroded and water is just leaking out of them.
He can get the 2 pipes but for £70 each, so I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get them cheaper, if that's possible. He got them priced up from our main VW dealer, who really do new cars.
Both of my pipes were coroded the same as your's so i cut the last 12" off and replaced them with plastic waste pipe, the guy on ebay has only got the return one and not the other and with the postage that one is £65 anyway.
We replaced them with hydraulic hose (marine grade)
Much better option, easy to fit, just cut through the old ones and drag them out in bits then thread the hydraulic hose through and connect it up, bleed and away you go... took about 2 hours all told.
Nice one Dave! Been looking for an alternative for a while 'cos I find the fuel tank out business when fitting the rigid pipes a pain in the a***.
Oh, and if anyone thinks the white plastic drainpipes from builders merchants are made of the same stuff as the replacement pipes from VW they're not! They melt after about five miles! My mate tried it to get him home after suffering total failure of one of the metal pipes while away camping a couple of years ago.
