Fuel Tank Advise

I run a 1985 1.9 Petrol Westy 'Joker'.

On the last couple of times when refueling i have noticed that when the tank is full there is petrol dripping from underneath the tank, this stops after a short run.

Anyone?

you need to have a good shufty when its full and see if you can narrow down where its coming from there are a load of pipes entering the tank on the top could be one or more of the grommets perished or what is common is the pipes to the expansion tanks have perished, but they are more in the wheel arch area.

The vans going in on wednesday for another ailment so i will get it checked out. Hopefully i wont require a new tank.

Some observations having dropped my tank off yesterday :-

1) the stupid design helps silt & salt settle on the top of the tank and thus rot it through

2) the stupid design calls for breather pipes that cross between the two sides of the tank and two more on each side which go to the silly expansion tanks under the wheel arches (which funnily enough also collect salt and grime and rot your wheel arch out next to the seatbelt mounting point)

3) The grommets perish,the cross breather comes off and the liquid gold spews forth onto the Queens highway, the tank rots out on the top while looking good as new on the sides and bottom.

Basically the 'engineer' who 'designed' this ludicrous tank should be flogged in the street and covered in rotting French Golden Delicious apples.

Hopefully someone will invest in producing a plastic replacement tank with moulded breathers rather than the current Teutonic masterpiece.

I have just got my van back and the problem was a faulty fuel pipe.

I like the tank it has got character :lol:mind you I've got small hands to get at the pipes.....you know what they say small hands............small gloves D
