Interior revamp
Im looking to replace the carpeting throughout my van (the stuff that covers the ceiling and other surfaces) as its starting to breakdown. everytime you brush against it, it gives off a cloud of dust. Tried to get hoover on it but it doesnt touch it.
Any idea if there are any companys out there who do this kind of work, or sell the stuff for doing it yourself? or is there a spray on sealer that will prevent any further breakdown of the material?
cheers
Justin

I had the same problem with my Devon when I got it. All I done was buy a roll of suitable fabric (I used the type for office furniture) and a few tins of spray carpet adhesive. I have done most of it now and it is quite easy even the vinyl door cards came up really proffesional and it was my first attempt. All I have left to do now is the roof and by the windows but it sticks on really well and hasnt budged.
It is nice to be important but more important to be nice!

You can get suitable roll ends from Ebay and other carpet suppliers. Incidentally Evo-Stik now do an adhesive that doesn't send you insane working with it. Tried it two days ago while I was recarpetting mine and it sticks well - and no smell. Look in B&Q and its the only Evo-Stik that you don't have to ask for at the checkout - 500ml tins I think.
Its not too big a job recarpetting. Use the existing as a template and if you're bothered about heavy wear - use mats here and there.

Any carpet you stick to the ceiling won't stay up unless you use high temp glue from frost or woolies. I'm on my second go now. All the flat bits are a breeze but round the windows. Fahking impossible. Nothing has ever been such a pain in the asre. You can only use fabric that stretches and carpet sure doesn't. I'm going back to natural around the windows.

Hi, I have recently redone the inside of my 87 autohomes kamper, got the carpet fabric from a company called AVA leisure in Edenbridge, Kent. they convert Mazda bongos!!
It comes on a 2 metre wide roll and was £10 for 2 square metres. I did the whole van with 10metres off the roll, including around the windows, and I'd have to say looks great
the carpet fabric was great, but not so impressed with the spray adhesive though. Maybe I was a bit stingy with the spray!.
Beware most spray adhesives you can get work up to 50degrees C, and during the recent hot spell most of the headlining/horizontal surfaced became unstuck and started to sag
I have found a new high temperature spray adhesive at recent peppercorn vw meet, refitted headlining and fingers crossed solved the droopiness
I would therefore recommend 'Trim-fix adhesive' made in conjuction with Dunlop. comes in a grey and red can, and withstands temperatures up to 70degrees C.
Not sure where else you could get it from though!
Regards
