I think it's 12mm hex for the swivel through bolt, must people just use a stilson or molegrips on the head.
The two bolts holding the top ball joint are M10's so I think it's 6mm hex, but these are often shagged, again a stilson will do with a bit of plusgas and heat maybe.

Done these on The Bus 2 years ago - it is a 6mm Allen key ... if rounded off (quell surprise !) apply gentle heat ... remember the vapour-filled expansion tanks are under there  .... and tap them round using a sharp little chisel. They aren't THAT tight and once cracked normally you'll get 'em off with the Allen key anyway. Not much room under there for the Billy Wilsons.

I replaced ours with shiney new ones, coated in coppaslip and filled the allen socket with coppaslip too (for next time  )

Cheers,Ian.

I've just replaced my upper ball joints on both sides. They are 8mm socket caps. One pair came off reasonably easy still took a piece of tube over my allen key though. The otherside wouldn't budge and they rounded off so i ground the heads off them ontil they fell away.
If you do that or damage and want to replace them i got two new ones at the local engineers supplies, they are M10 x 1.5 and cost me 20p!!
