Flywheel

I am putting a recon CU egine in my Danbury and on inspection the flywheel has got quite worn can you buy a new one or should I get it machined at a local engineirs?

Any help would be cool.

It all depends on how badly worn it is, can you not put a small striaghtedge across the drive surface and measure the wear?

If it were me I would have it checked out and/or machined, if I thought it was too badly scored to use as it is.

I should think it would be cheaper to have your own skimmed than buy new.

I agree with Tex, always worth checking and although a bit of a pain, getting it ground flat (a lathe won't touch it if its been blued/overheated) worth doing - check for waviness with the straight edge and visual inspection for cracks and overheating.

At the same time the rear boss that the oil seal runs against might need dressing, as they get scored and damage the lip of new seal when re-fitted...

If you're anywhere near Chipping Norton theres a machine shop there that will grind the face smooth (he did mine anyway)

Will the clutch adjust up ok if I have it skiimed and will it be balanced?

You'll be talking barely a few thou off it usually. As much as anything it's to get a decent surface finish back on it.. can't see it will affect the balance either. Talk to a shop about it, but remember to say that the flywheel is of a recessed type as a normal flywheel grinding machine might not be able to do this type..
