Cooling problem 2.1

Post by badger »

All was ok until MOT test on Thursday. Engine was left idling for about 5 mins prior to emissions test, noted on way home that temp gauge was climbing to the point where the warning light started to flash about 1/4 mile from home. Took it extremely gently and let it cool down.
Fired it up this morning, the engine seems to warm up quickly; the heater blows hot air, but there's no signs of hot coolant at the radiator. I've released a little coolant out of the bleed screw, feels cold.
Not familiar with the pipe layout, how can the matrix for the heater be getting coolant flow but the radiator not? Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Just a thought - the fluid might be ok but perhaps the main fan isn't kicking in because of a faulty thermostat on radiator?

Coolant isn't even warm in the radiator, so the fan switch isn't making. Sounds like a flow problem through the radiator.
I've been told that the heater matrix and radiator are fed separately, so i'm hoping that it's just a stuck thermostat.
