Crap fuel gauge

Post by Jonni »

My fuel gauge is crap, it changes all the time and just doens't seem reliable at all. Is this common? Can I do anything about it?

Also my speedo dial is very wobbly under 30 mph :?:

My fuel guage is similar, and I think it's normal. I've learned to 'read' it now - taking account of the gradient I'm on :)

Find a nice level stretch of road and read it after 30 seconds of 'settling time'. :)

hey,

mines the same...put say a tenner in it and write down what ur mileage is at...then drive until u need to refuel (i.e. when the throttle gets light) then make a note of how far uv done...this way u can keep an eye on ur mileage/fuel ratios too...

Fuel gauge could be the voltage stabilizer ( 3 pronged with black sealed diode ) behind clocks or could be the circuit board.
Speedo could be your cable or try disconecting from the speedo and putting some grease round it.

Had the same problem on my van, turned out to be corroded earth wire terminal on sender unit. Fitted new unit, now works a treat.

I have the VW T3 speedo tick, but I have learned to live with it.
