WHEEL STUD BUTCHER,ANYBODY GOT ANY SPARES/ADVICE?

eyup duck,i seem to be posting a lot of posts of late,hope they can be used by other in the same dilemmas,anyway some a*******e has beaten the crap out of one of the rear hubs on marladys camper(before we bought it)of course,looks like they had a sticking brake so just hammered the wheel nuts with a british rail spike hammer,thus bending the studs and deforming some of the threads,anybody got any for sale nice and cheap in or around staffordshire/shropshire as im getting a little p****d off with shelling out this week!!!!....regards,also do they come out without removing the hub

I don't see a walkthrough of stud changing on the Wiki, perhaps I'm missing it though.

It would be handy, also for those wanting to put on extended studs! Can anyone enlighten us? Please and thankyou

Very simple:

1. Wheel and drum off

2. Align each stud so it can come out without hitting anything

3. If you want to save the old stud knock out with a drift, otherwise just hit

4. Swear and hit them a bit harder

5. Push new stud in from behind, slide a suitable spacer (say large nut or two) over it and pull into place with a backwards nut

6. If the splines won't start tap from behind and repeat 5

7. Repeat 2 - 6 four more times

8. Cup of tea

9. Refit drum and wheel, tighten each nut at least twice as the nuts will pull the stud splines further in, spill tea

10. Drive van and retighten

can i add to the wiki entry? use an old steel wheel as a jig, i.e. fit it to the drum. the tapers on the holes will help to keep the studs square..

make certain by visual inspection that all stud heads are flush with the inside of the drum.

if you're fitting alloys, remove the little bolt that holds the drum to the drive flange, otherwise they'll look well bent

"look" - try "be"...........ALWAYS remove the retaining bolt if it's in the way, or you'll foul your wheels.......
