Mayo under oil filler cap.

Big lumps of metals and spanners.

Mayo under oil filler cap.

Post by geordie skydiver »

I checked my oil today and there was Mayo under the oil filler cap.

What does that mean?

Its an Aircooled 2.0L.

If it was W/C, I could understand.

Is it a problem?

The engine was stood unused for many years before I recently fitted it, and I've done about 800miles in it since then. Its used about half a litre of oil in that time.

A fair mix of both. Longest journey has been about 100 miles.

its more than likely just a bit of condensation .. you could take it for a good drive about , let it cool down then do an oil and filter change

Cheers, thats what I hoped, its off the road now until I get back from Afghanistan in 8 weeks, but I'll do another oil and filter change then.

I'm planning a 1200 mile trip through Scandinavia, I hope this engine is up to it!

Thanks! :D

Like Onion says - the scuzz in a 2l oil cooled's filler can be quite intimidating, but it's mostly condensation......
