On removing the head!

Post by zinfandel »

Removing the head off an old DG I brought as a project to do up as a spare and to understand the workings and Fun that can be had with these engines.
No head bolts snapped 8)
One barrel will not let go of the head :x , removed head with barrel and tried persuading it with semi soft blows with a piece of wood! :? Wont let go so left it to soak in some + gas. Any one else had this problem and how best to remove the barrel without damage to the head? :)

You are not hitting it hard enough!!
If you are not worried about the barrel, then hit it harder on alternate sides, if you can tap it away from the head using a lump of wood and a hammer, with the wood up against the lugs on the barrel.. the plusgas should do it overnight though!!
