Carb Problem Help Please.

Post by happytheman »

Can't think of how to word this so here goes. I have a 1980 2 litre Aircooled engine. The nearside carb has a valve attached to stop the engine running on when the ignition switches off. The thread on the pipe has worn and it is letting in air and running weak. This is causing misfires etc. Can I get just the pipe or do I need to replace the whole carb? If anyone can tell me exactly what this piece is called that would also be useful.

Thanks

Idle circuit cutoff valve

Here's a pic to start with...

This fitting has a tendency to work loose and leak - I'd be tempted to try some sealant gunge to stop the air leak. Sometimes the fitting is removed and the hole sealed somehow - crudely with just a bolt in some cases. The function is not that critical according to some, but not VW obviously.

Excellent picture, I've had mentioned to me to use ptfe tape that plumbers use just to seal the thread, I'll find something then and stop it.

Cheers,
