Working Syncro...

Post by HarryMann »

We got chatting to a couple in a garden centre today... he was the civil engineer involved with a group of volunteers restoring the Wendover arm of the Grand Union canal, near us, at the foot of the Chitern Hills.

He'd followed the Doka into the carpark... and then mentioned that their utility vehcile on this project was a Syncro that had been donated to the project, an H Reg diesel re-engined with a non-turbo 1.6 Golf unit.

They are very happy with it, being considered 'ideal' and have kept it maintained quite well. It frequently pulls out small lorries and delivery vans that get stuck...
Here's a few piccies of it doing its job..

Canal Terry, and it's lined with clay filled Bentomat sheets for the canaloraks (geosynthetic clay liner)... built as a main feeder arm for the Grand Union in the late 18th century, its puddled clay started leaking soon after, and 100 years was taking more water out than it was putting in, despite repairs! 3 large reservoirs near Tring now feed the canal, which have become a haven for wildlife, and worth a visit and walkabout if peering at feathered birds through binocs is your thing - or just some fresh Bucks, Beds and Herts air.

I'll put your offer in though, but it'll be a while yet before they're done with bashing its roof with diggers -Good to hear from you!
