Please can someone remind me how much oil I need to refill my gear box, (1.9dg 1990) I think its 4.5 litres (EP8090) but cannot find an amount on the WIKI.

Yes the VW instruction manual says the same as Haynes, 3.5 litres of gear oil, specification API - GL 4 SAE 80.

All sorted now thanks folks.
I found I couldn't get the drain plug key and the ratchet handle into the available space so had to sort a nuts and bolt affair, with a little help from some mates with a welder I finally managed to get the drain plug undone, not a lot of scree in there, just bits stuck on the magnet.
Full of nice new oil now, so will see how that affects the hot gear change problems.
