Anyone know the weight of a Subaru engine?

Anyone know the weight of a Subaru engine?

I'm thinking about putting a 2.2 or 2.5 Subaru engine into my van but half the battle with these vans to me is keeping the weight down. Does anyone know how much a 2.2 or 2.5 Subaru engine weighs?

Less than a 1.8GTI or 1.6TD motor, but it's far more bstard awkward to pick the damned thing up!

Same as a WBX within 20 or so pounds... but bear in mind all the crap thats thrown away when you put one in...

I read somewhere it was 35 kilos heavier than the VW engine

280lb. if i remember right, full of oil and water about 325, thats non-turbo. Well 325 is what mine was. thats with a/c, p/s, and the intake. I hope that helped, see i needed that info too, cuz, i'm putting my subi motor in a 1970 air cooled bay window. and the motor i pulled out of it was about 265 full of oil. so my little van will be a little heavier in the tail

As I said above, barely 20 lbs pounds heavier than a WBX, but it really doesn't matter too much, c.f. a few gallons of fuel

Wow thats a little heavier than I was expecting.
From the information which is on the net... which puts a Rover V8 at 318 lbs and an Aircooled Bug engine at 200 lbs.. oh and an Audi 1500 engine (similar to Golf GTi engine?) at 240lbs..

Why is it such a battle keeping the weight down? They're from 1800 Kg upwards anyway, do you really think a few pounds here and there matters much... what you going to be carrying around in it - gold bullion??

Those weight figures you have could relate to almost anything anyway, as far as ancillary fitments - couldn't they? Did they come saying exactly what they related to... EXACTLY?

Good point well made.. no info on if thats dry weight, with or without ancilleries. Think I need to buy some scales :D

Thanks for the info... very helpful.

The reason behind the weight-less (!) compulsiveness is just trying to help the van remain as light as possible. More weight is more to accelerate... more to stop... more to take around corners. When it comes to weight of vans... I'm with Colin Chapman 8)

Spent ages searching my computer fir this engine weights info. I knew I had it somewhere - turneed out to be on paper in a ring binder. No wonder I couldn't find it on the computer!

Subaru 'H6' 3 litre (2003 - i.e. plastic inlet manifold, VVT, etc) 170 kg
EJ18 SOHC 118 kg
EJ20 DOHC 130 kg
EJ20 DOHC Turbo 147 kg
EJ22 SOHC 121 kg

Hope that's some use. It's all from technical articles published by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the USA, or new engine press releases in automotive engineering magazines.

I have no knowledge of these engines.Are some Aircooled noticed some think about aero engine.

No, no all watercooled

Many aero engines are liquid cooled, since early aviation days... think the EJ25 is the one chosen for PFA/self build aircraft, but with substrantial modifications.
