Hi, could someone tell me where is the cylinder number 1...is it the one close to flywheel?

Yup right side of engine nearest the pulley :D

Depends on which engine.
Diesel in the one closest to the cambelt end.
On a WBX looking into the engine bay from the rear its the front right.

Stef, which engine are you thinking of?
No.1 is front right (looking from back of van) on a water boxer...
Nearest the pulley would be rear right...? which is No.2

Sorry folks forgot to mention is TD engine again, so it's the one by the cam belt end Ok TDC means is the highs point of the piston in that cylinder?

Yes on both counts.
TDC is Top Dead Centre, and means when the piston is up, and has no more up left to go.
