Have you considered that if its the fan motor (shorted/seized/jammed etc) and its sounds like it is (wait for the Bashtie crowd to return to their computer seats and you should get more feedback, whether this is likely/common)... sorry, to continue, have you considered that the the fan isn't necessary in the summer much, unless its really peeing down and you need demist, that once moving and engine warm, the fresh air settings will demist it - i.e. it perhaps isn't bustingly urgent?

Get another fan and motor by all means, but don't jump too quickly - as long as you don't turn the fan on.

From memory, I think ceramic fuse number 8 is for that fan. It's also for your wipers too though!
