oil sump

Post by pactdonkey »

i have an oil leak from my oil sump. it is from the side nearest the middle of the van, there is a bit of gum or putty which is sealing what looks like a hole.. should the be this putty here? i was thinking the owner before cracked it or something and selaed it with this. Is it worth repairing this again or buy a new oil sump. If so how much and how easy would this be to fix?
Cheers

I am uselless on techy things but I would think a new sump is the way to go if you can get one cheap enough, good time to change the oil and filter while you are at it as well. Someone with a bit more knowledge will come along later and be able to tell you if you need a gasket or whatever.

If the gum is allowing a leak then its probably not worth doing again. There are apparently specialists who can weld sumps but it is a task and a half due to the oil in the metal.
Probably best to get new if you can, better than the gum losing grip and your engine losing all its oil!
