It had an oil and filter change just before the trip. no leaks though. I'll change the oil to regular stuff, see if that sorts things out.

I'd go with the oil change it, quantum or gtx 15/40 my preferred choice, and vw's, like Steve says semi and synthetic not good, poor tappet pressure and leaky in my experience too, and check the connections while you're under it for peace of mind.
Steve you be good to that engine :lol: . I hope it's had it's first oil and filter change ok- do the second at 3000 preferably.
