Brake warning light

Post by Bendyknees »

Have just driven home after replacing rear wheel bearing, cv's and wheel cylinders. All is cool but my brake warning light is staying on. Have checked the h'brake switch and topped up the fluid res above the speedo. My brakes work perfectly but the light wont go out. Any suggestions? :?

As you know it's a dual warning lamp so I would suspect the one thats been disturbed..i.e the fluid level,
take another look at the switch and try and operate it manualy..
the hand brake switch is pressure operated.

Just been back out to have another gander. As we both suspected the H'bake switch is not the problem as u can see a fluctuation in the brightness of the lamp as you operate the switch. However under the master cylinder is another 3 pin switch, which i have removed the plug from to check the contacts which seem fine, and i have a good power to 1 of the contacts. I didnt attempt to short the switch in any way as im not sure which pole is for what. What is this swicth for, looks in the wrong place for a level switch but doesnt control my brakelights.
At the brake warning ligt plug i have 2 lives also(1 for the h'brake side presumably). The other feed is from a red wire that seems to feed into 2 other wires. 1 brown the other blue if my dodgy memory is workin.
HELP

Just had a brain wave!!! :D i think the fault occurred while the van was parked up. was on before i drove it into the workshop to do the repairs(well i had already done 1 side on saturday but the light wasnt on then). So the light wasnt on on the way to work im pretty sure, parked it up till 5.30, got in it, lights on :( how common is it for that little pack of resistors to pack up that controls the light? Because lookin at that nasty little switch below the master cylinder i think its gonna be a pig to change :(
The vans been off the road for nearly a month with wonky wheels :( now i fix it an summit else breaks.
Right im off to stand out the back an shout abuse at the van :twisted
